Understand your public IP address

Your public IP address is the internet-facing identifier assigned to your connection. myip.mk shows it instantly, then adds clear network and approximate location details without requiring an account or loading browser-tracking scripts.

What is an IP address?

An Internet Protocol address lets devices and networks exchange data online. Websites see a public address when your browser connects to them. That address normally belongs to your router, mobile operator, company gateway, VPN, or internet provider rather than uniquely identifying one person or one physical device.

IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4 uses familiar dotted numbers such as 192.0.2.1 and remains common across home and mobile networks. IPv6 uses a longer hexadecimal format and supplies a much larger address space. Your provider, router, operating system, and the destination service determine which version a connection uses.

Public IP versus private IP

A public IP can be routed across the internet. Private addresses such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, and many 172.16–31.x.x addresses are used only inside local networks. Multiple phones, computers, and smart devices can therefore share one public address through network address translation.

What IP location really means

IP geolocation is an estimate based on network registration and routing datasets. Country-level results are often useful, while city and coordinate fields can point to an operator office or network hub. VPNs, proxies, corporate networks, mobile gateways, and carrier-grade NAT can make the apparent location different from your actual position.

Frequently asked questions about IP addresses

How do I find my public IP address?

Open myip.mk and the large address near the top is the public IPv4 or IPv6 address visible for your current connection. For scripts, curl https://myip.mk/ip returns only the address.

Does my public IP address change?

It can. Many residential and mobile providers assign dynamic addresses that change after reconnecting or over time. A business connection may use a static address. Switching Wi-Fi, mobile data, VPN, or location can also change the result.

Can an IP address reveal my exact location?

Usually not. An IP can suggest a country, region, city, or network operator, but it normally cannot reveal an exact home, person, or device. Treat all displayed location fields as approximate network information.

Why does my IP change when I use a VPN?

A VPN routes traffic through its server. Websites then see the VPN server’s public address and approximate location instead of the address assigned directly by your internet provider.

Is it safe to share an IP address?

Public IP addresses are routinely visible to online services, but they are still useful security and network information. Avoid publishing unnecessary details, keep routers updated, and do not treat an IP address as proof of identity.

Location is an estimate based on network registration and may not represent your precise position. No account or browser tracking is used.
